In Memory

John Thomas

We take this moment to fondly remember our friends, classmates who have passed away.

They will be missed, but will forever be in our hearts

John Edward "Johnny" Thomas II, 34, of Catlett passed away at Georgetown University Hospital Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, after a brief and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Johnny was born Feb. 11, 1971, in Alexandria and was a graduate of Gar-Field High School. He began his career with Prince William County in 2000, first with the Park Authority, then later joining the Department of Fire and Rescue in 2002, where he was an active member until his untimely death. Johnny was promoted to the rank of technician II with the department on Nov. 20, 2004. During his proud fire and rescue career, he received the Team Member of the Month award in April 2003, along with several other acknowledgements for the performance of an animal rescue, activities with Take Our Children to Work Day and in recognition of his initiative under the most critical of circumstances.

Jon you are greatly missed and i'm sorry that i didn't know or have word of your passing sooner that now. jon was a good friend; funny guy, and all around clown who accepted you how you were. Jon, i miss talking to you about anything and everything you have a place in my heart and my thoughts are with your family.

If anyone has information on where jon has been laid to rest i would appreciate it for my information.

John and I used to hang out as kids. For a brief time he and I were "banned" from playing together... we walked across the street from his house on Forestdale Ave and went fishing in the pond near that old farm in the field (now condos and BJ's). We made our own poles out of sticks, string and safety pins...too funny. I told him it would never work but he just laughed and kept saying "sure it will." He was right, about an hour into it we hooked a monster brim and thought we were the shit. Well, as you can imagine, especially those with children, we had no concept of time and 5 hours had passed... much to my searching parents displeasure. I still remember my Father yelling at me the whole way home about "telling us where you're going so we know where to start looking...blah blah"

It was a lot of fun. Rest in Peace Johnny!

Who couldn't forget John Thomas. What a smile! I am just learning of his passing and very sad to know that such a wonderful, funny and good-looking man has gone on. To the family, May God give you strength everyday.

Blessings,
Tina
